London Looking West

So - here it is: finished London looking West in all its glory! Months of sketching, drawing, correcting, redoing and colouring came to a fruitful end. This ever changing and restless metropolis kept me busy for quite a while.

I thought it was time to pay tribute to the new additions to London’s growing skyline: firstly you might spot The Shard - the newcomer that has obviously been embraced very quickly by both Londoners and visitors alike. Across the river the roof garden crowned Walkie-Talkie, the Cheese grater, the Herron Tower and even the not yet existing Pinnacle tower above the City joining the familiar iconic buildings of the Square Mile like the Gherkin, Tower 42 or the Lloyd’s Building on Leadenhall Street.

The view which stretches from Bermondsey and Bricklayer’s Arms on the left all the way to Liverpool Street Station on the right features also many of the famous historic London landmarks such as the Tower Bridge, The Tower (no poppies though), Southwark Cathedral, the Golden Hinde, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Tate Modern, Oxo Tower, London Eye, Big Ben, BT-Tower, St Paul’s, Old Bailey, Guildhall, the Monument, Bank of England and the Royal Exchange as well as many less well known sights like Guy’s Hospital, Leadenhall Market, Finsbury Circus, Finsbury Square, Broadgate Circle, the Barbican and numerous churches built in the City after the great fire.

My London artwork also gets more and more populated: rush hour traffic on London Bridge or around Liverpool Street Station, enoying in reality but a lot of fun to draw! Thames Clippers on the river, trains heading to London Bridge, Cannon Street, Blackfriars or Charring Cross, aircrafts getting in line for Heathrow (on the left) or on final approach to City Airport (on the right): that is the hustle and the bustle of the big metropolis!

With London looking West I want to depict this fabulous mix of old and new, history and modernity, an image for the true London expert and connoisseur!
